Please excuse our mess! The FHR website is undergoing a bit of a facelift and there may some incomplete or incorrect information. We are working on updating, but if you have any questions, please contact us at bluestem@emporia.edu

ABOUT FHR
For 30 years, Flint Hills Review has sought to discover and redefine regional writing by publishing work with a particular interest in the Midwest region, including its connection to ethnicity, gender, and personal relationships.
We are produced by the Creative Writing Program at Emporia State University, in the Donald Reichardt Center for Publishing and Literary Arts.
2026 HIATUS
As we at Flint Hills Review shift from an all-print to an online journal, we have regretfully found it necessary to take the 2026 year off from publishing the journal.
As writers who regularly send out work ourselves, we understand how frustrating this can be to hear, especially if you've been waiting on a response for a long time. We apologize for the inconvenience and delay while we regroup and navigate some institutional changes that made this deferral necessary.
Right now, our plan is to publish a special double-issue in 2027. Currently, all submitted pieces are still under consideration for that upcoming online edition.
If you would like your work to remain under consideration, you don't need to do anything (though, as always, please do let us know if it is accepted elsewhere in the interim). If, on the other hand, you would like to go ahead and pull your submission, we understand. Please let us know sometime within the next two months.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please follow us online (Facebook/Instagram @esucreativewriting) for announcements and updates.
Sincerely,
Kevin Rabas
