SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Flint Hills Review is currently on a 1-year hiatus.
You are still welcome to submit for our next issue.
Flint Hills Review welcomes submissions of poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, short plays, scripts and art from beginning and experienced writers and artists. The staff reads Nov 1 through Mar 31 each year, and a new issue is published each summer. Submissions received outside of that time will still be logged, and will be read during our next reading period.
Our Reading Period
We read annually from November 1 - March 31. Submissions received outside of that time will still be logged and will be read during our next reading period.
We do our best to make sure each piece is reviewed by multiple staff members, so while we may respond to you sooner, please don't anticipate a response before November.
Simultaneous Submissions
FHR does accept simultaneous submissions; however as a courtesy, please notify us at once if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Flint Hills Review retains North American First Publishing rights, (we get to be the first to publish it) and the right to share your work in the normal course of marketing the journal (e.g. sharing your poem on social media) but you retain all other rights.
Tell Us About Yourself
Please include a short, 3rd-person bio (approx. 50-75 words) with all submissions.
Not sure what to say about yourself?
Short and simple is fine; just let us know who you are, what you do and, if you're comfortable, where you're based. Feel free to include where people can find more of your work.
John Smith is an Emporia, KS based poet. His work has been published in Quivira and Midwest Quarterly.
Types of Work We Accept
Flint Hills Review literary journal accepts previously unpublished poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, short scripts, and art.
Submission Limits & Formatting Requirements
All TEXT submissions should be submitted in .doc or .docx format and include the title of the piece(s) in the document. Including multiple pieces in one document files is fine, however please begin each piece on a new page. Please also note if there is a formatting situation we should be aware of (e.g. a stanza is broken by a page break).
All ART submissions should be CMYK or Greyscale, submitted in .png, .pdf, or .jpeg format (.jpeg preferred), and include the title of the piece as you would like it to appear in the journal as the file name. If there is special formatting that will not allow this (e.g. Kerry Moyer's poem"[expired]" in issue 29) please note in the comments of your submission.
